“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” – the White Queen, Alice in Wonderland.
What are some of the impossible things you believe in? For me, it’s the following:
1) Magic- I believe that magic exists all around us at any given time. Typically, as children, we frequently see the magic that exists regularly. Its comes naturally to us. Unfortunately as adults we often walk through life with blinders on, missing out on the amazing, beautiful magic that is right in front of our eyes.
2) Miracles- they happen. True story.
3) Inherent goodness. So maybe this one isn’t technically impossible, but with all of the negative, scary things we see on the news on any given day, its easy to believe that we humans kind of suck or at least that caring about others without some inherent selfish motive is a rarity. However, I firmly believe in our inherent goodness and worth and that the people we see doing icky stuff are the exception rather than the rule.
4) Time travel. Even though it makes my head hurt.
5) Infinite possibilities. I believe that nothing is really impossible. Maybe not likely, or beyond our understanding of how to achieve, but not impossible. (of course, I could end up eating my words on this one :))
6) Senses beyond our normally accepted 5 of touch, taste, hearing, sight, and smell. I believe in the unseen and I believe that everything boils down to energy and thoughts are energy therefore thoughts have power.
7) Love and the power of love to heal, transform and overcome. I believe that love is the most powerful force in the universe (and fear is one of the most if not the most destructive). I believe that there is someone out there for everyone. I believe in the grand, penultimate love stories that cut across all time, space, and obstacles. I believe that it exists as an option for all of us (though it sometimes requires a great deal of patience). I believe that its possible – and necessary- for each of us to love ourselves and that that can be the most rewarding relationship we ever have. I believe that sometimes -as impossible as it seems- letting someone go with love (albeit painful) can be just as powerful and transformative as an inexplicable knowing that allows you to have faith and hold a place in your heart for someone until the universe conspires to bring you together. I believe in the beauty and power of love which guides you to stubbornly stand by someone (as a friend or otherwise) no matter how many times your “ship” is tested because you can see through all of the bullshit straight through to the core of who that person is and love them unconditionally. Not because you are a doormat or out of desperation, but because you truly, unconditionally love them and you love yourself enough to know the difference.
8) That someday Johnny Depp will accept my invitation to come to my house dressed up like Captain Jack Sparrow
9) That some of you will actually read this all of the way through and will respond with a few impossible things you believe in for my reading pleasure…
